Welcome!
BURLAP LUTE, based in the Philadelphia area, first began making music together playing late medieval and Renaissance dance pieces for revels held by the Society for Creative Anachronism. But we couldn’t keep our hands off of the Irish and other more modern folk stuff, so Burlap Lute has expanded its repertoire, making forays into European traditional music, and adding original pieces by composer/ arranger Paul (whose name, anagrammed six ways from Sunday, inspired the group’s moniker). Combining traditional folk instruments like guitar, violin, pennywhistle and flute with early instruments like recorders, harp, crumhorns, and vielle, Burlap Lute creates a unique acoustic sound blending old and new folk traditions. That sound has been presented at an equally diverse set of venues, from Renaissance Faires to coffee houses and art festivals to weddings. Burlap Lute continues to seek new sounds by branching out into early medieval and Eastern traditions to explore new folk experiences, and touch on new fusions.
